Designing Calm — A Wellness App Built Around the Human Mind
Mental wellness apps often fail at the most important thing: making users feel safe the moment they open the app. Zenly approached us knowing they had a powerful product concept — a daily mental wellness companion with mood tracking, guided breathing, and habit building — but needed a design that matched the sensitivity of the subject matter.
Challenge
Social apps carry high design expectations from younger audiences. The interface needed to feel fresh and culturally relevant while remaining intuitive enough to use without a tutorial.
Solution
A dark-mode-first UI with an interactive map at its core. Custom avatar components, animated status indicators, and a vibrant icon system were designed to give each user a distinct presence. The brand identity uses a geometric wordmark with a playful color system.
Result
Concept received 2,400+ saves on Dribbble and was featured in two design newsletters.
